The 5 main principles of Reiki

1. Just for today, I will not be angry

Anger is the result of feeling out of control. When you get angry, be aware of your reactions and also feel thankful for having gotten an opportunity to look at your weakness. Do not feel guilty for experiencing anger. Be in the "attitude for gratitude" and just for today do not anger.

Anger spreads a cycle of hatred. When a person gets angry, he/she takes it out on someone else. The next person, having done nothing to deserve being treated badly will take his/her frustration out on someone else, and the cycle continues.

The Person who started the chain as well as each person continuing this unnecessary action incurs a karmic debt onto themselves. This debt will definitely get cleared by the person having to do the victim of his action direct or indirect victim) a good deed.

2. Just for today, I will not worry.

Worrying results from a feeling of separateness from the universal wholeness. Try not to interfere with the universal timing in life. Live each day to the best of your ability and everything else will be taken care of when and if it should.

People who worry usually feel anxious, it leads them to make rash decision and take unnecessary actions. Always remember to stay calm. Through a calm and collected manner, you will have new insights to solve your problems.

As with anger, Worrying also gathers negative energy from around you, to you, and into your aura. Then the weakest physical parts of your body get affected. So always try to clear your worries and gain an insight in the given situation.

" Pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. "

3. Just for today, I will do my work Honestly.

To be honest with oneself is to face truth in all things. Truth brings clarity. Honesty with yourself will project honesty on to others, and then promote honesty back onto you.

This applies to any line of work, and is directly related to our inner subconscious. We know when we're being deceitful. The decisions we make in this life time are the roads we choose to take. Like a tree with a thousand branches and sub branches, our path can take any road. There is always one starting point, and then thousand branches after it. The start and thousand end results represent our destiny. The Path that we choose to take, represents our fate. Our fates lie in our hands.

4. Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.

We are all of one source and are independent. To show love and respect to all others is to love and respect ourselves and our mother earth. Inherently, we all want to be nice to others and like others. This situation deviates depending on what our choices have been and how we chose to deal with different situations that we have encountered. A Reiki Practitioner believes that everyone is a mirror of ourselves. What we like in others, is what we like in ourselves, and what we dislike in others is what we dislike in ourselves. A person who is at complete peace with oneself will not have a need to dislike anyone.

So we need to learn to love ourselves, and love others. Show kindness unto others. When you do something good, you are not only doing it for the person receiving your kindness, whether you realize it or not, you are also doing it for your own personal happiness. This is due to the fact that our inner spirit, who is much more knowledgeable, is guiding us to do this kindness to clear a karmic debt we may have incurred.

5. Just for today, I will Give thanks for my blessings.

Always feel thankful for what we have as well as what we know will constantly be provided. Our normal state is that of all-sufficiency or abundance. By living in gratitude one can shift from the vicious circle of lack-ness to the virtuous circle of abundance.

"In a situation, there is no good or bad... there is only the situation, and our actions"

The situation is the same, always. it is our view point that shifts. A car accident where we get injured, could be seen as a misfortune or as a blessing, We need to believe that no matter what we do, there are things we cannot change. We can only be scornful or show gratitude, needless to say being scornful will only add and attract more misery to us, and no matter how many blessings we receive we will fail to see it, so we must always show gratitude and be thankful for everything we have.
